“PT London” is for the aggregators. “Postnatal weight loss PT W4” is for you.

Generic PT head terms are dominated by PureGym, Fitness First, and Bark. The PTs filling diaries target transformation-specific long-tails where the buyer has self-qualified by goal, life stage, and training style. Niche pages convert at 5-10x generic pages and rank with thin competition.

08 · Let’s talk

Stop competing on “PT [city]”. Own a transformation.

A short introduction, your site URL, and what you’re trying to achieve. If it’s a fit, we’ll book a 30-minute call.

Free £500 SEO audit included with any web dev or SEO package · no card required

UK personal trainer SEO is one of the most aggregator-dominated local verticals. Generic head terms are held by PureGym, Fitness First, Bark, and similar at scale. Independent PTs cannot displace them on the head term — but they can win convincingly on transformation-specific long-tails where the buyer has self-qualified and the competitive set is genuinely thin.

Below is how we rank PTs through that aggregator pressure.

Chapter 02 · Niche specialisation pages

The transformation pages that earn the diary

Dedicated pages per transformation or population you genuinely serve are the highest-leverage PT SEO investment. Each page is its own landing page with structured depth.

What each niche page needs

  • Specific opening on the buyer’s situation (the postpartum mum 6 months in, the beginner who hasn’t trained since school, the woman approaching 50 worried about bone density).
  • The training approach you actually use, written without jargon.
  • Real client transformations from that population (with consent), with before/after evidence, names where they agree, and measurable outcomes.
  • Frequently asked questions specific to the population.
  • Pricing transparency or pricing band where compliant.
  • Booking CTA tied to your scheduling system.
  • Person schema with REPs / CIMSPA / specialist qualifications.

How many niches?

Three to five well-built niche pages outperform fifteen generic transformation pages every time. Pick the niches your client base is genuinely concentrated in. If most of your clients are postpartum women, build that page deeply. Don’t build pages for niches you don’t actually serve well — the conversion drops and Google reads the bounce signals.

Chapter 03 · Pre and post natal as the highest-ROI niche

Why the specialist sub-vertical earns waiting lists

Pre and post natal women’s fitness is the highest-ROI PT niche in our retainer accounts. Three reasons stack: demand is high, qualified competition is thin, and LTV per client is excellent (women working back to baseline fitness usually stay with their PT 18-36 months).

What pre/post natal pages need

  • Specialist qualifications visible (CIMSPA Pre & Postnatal, PROnatal Fitness, Burrell Education).
  • Diastasis-recti awareness content (recognition, programming around it, when to refer to physio).
  • Pelvic-floor aware programming explained.
  • Birth-recovery timeline content (6 weeks to 6 months to 12 months milestones).
  • Caesarean birth recovery context where applicable.
  • Real client examples from the same population.
  • Referral relationships with women’s health physios (linked out, often reciprocated).

Why most PTs underperform here

Most PTs working with postnatal women are not qualified to programme around diastasis recti or pelvic floor dysfunction. Customers know this, Google reads the gap between credentials and claims, and the niche correctly rewards genuinely qualified specialists. The barrier-to-entry protects the ranking once earned.

Chapter 04 · Online PT and online coaching

The different SEO surface

Online PT is structurally different SEO from in-person. Wider catchment (no proximity requirement), different competitive set (international PTs, app-based platforms), different content needs (delivery model, accountability mechanisms, technology stack).

What online PT pages need

  • Delivery model content: app (Trainerize, Hevy, FitSW), Zoom check-ins, WhatsApp daily contact, video form check.
  • Programme structure content: how often you change programming, how check-ins work, how you track adherence.
  • Technology stack content: what app the client uses, what the experience is like week to week.
  • Trust signals stronger than in-person (more testimonials, more transformation evidence, named-coach authority because there’s no in-person gym to anchor the trust).
  • Pricing transparency — online coaching pricing is more pricing-shopped than in-person.
  • FAQ schema answering process questions.

The competitive set

Online PT competes with international solo coaches (US, Australia), with app-based platforms (Future, Trainerize Marketplace), and with niche online coaching brands (Renaissance Periodisation, Stronger by Science). Independent online PTs win on niche specialism, named-coach personality, and outcome evidence that platforms structurally cannot match.

Chapter 05 · Before/after evidence and content

The visual asset most PT sites underbuild

Real client transformations are the highest E-E-A-T signal in PT SEO. They outrank credentials, outrank certifications, outrank everything else when implemented properly.

What a real transformation case study needs

  • Permission from the client, written and explicit, with photo and video consent.
  • Before and after photos consistent in lighting, angle, clothing where possible.
  • Time-stamp clarity (3 months, 6 months, 12 months) — honest, no compressed timelines.
  • Measurable outcomes (kg lost, kg added on key lifts, race time, body composition change with method noted).
  • Client story in their own words where possible (video testimonial preferred, transcript provided for accessibility and SEO).
  • Programme approach summary (what training style, what nutrition framework if you advise nutrition, what frequency).
  • Article + Person + ImageObject schema with proper alt text.
  • Honest disclaimer (“results vary, this client’s outcome reflects their specific situation”).

Cadence and shelf-life

3-8 real transformation case studies per year compounds powerfully. Each has a 3-5 year shelf life on the site. They feed Google Image search, social proof on every related niche page, and trust signals across the rest of the content.

90% of SEO agencies don't write a line of code.
We do, and that's why the rankings actually ship.

Most agency SEO deliverables end at a recommendations document the client's developer never gets around to implementing. We write the schema, ship the SSR refactor, and merge the internal-link rebuild ourselves. The SEO work that needs code ships in the same sprint the audit flagged it.

What we ship

Code that runs, merged on the same sprint

Why does "personal trainer [city]" not work as an SEO target?

Three reasons. First, the keyword is dominated by aggregator platforms (PureGym PT directory, Fitness First, Bark, GymCatch). Second, conversion is poor: a prospect searching the generic head term has not self-qualified for goal, budget, or training style. Third, the competitive set is enormous (every PT in the city). The fix is transformation-specific long-tails (postnatal weight loss, beginner strength training, marathon training PT, stage prep coach) where the buyer has self-qualified and the competitive set is thin.

What does "transformation-specific" actually mean for SEO?

Pages targeting the buyer's specific goal and context. "Postnatal weight loss PT [area]" attracts mums 6-18 months postpartum. "Couch to 5K coach [area]" attracts complete beginners. "Strength training PT for women over 40 [area]" attracts a specific demographic with specific concerns. "Bodybuilding stage prep coach" attracts competitive athletes. Each is its own landing page with content matched to that buyer's situation, conversion rate often 5-10x generic PT pages.

How long until a PT ranks?

For a Level 3 REPs / CIMSPA registered PT, first transformation-specific Map Pack and organic rankings at 6-12 weeks. Generic head terms ("PT London") rarely move inside 12 months because of aggregator dominance — we don't target them as primary keywords.

What about online PT and online coaching SEO?

Online PT is a separate SEO sub-vertical. Different keywords ("online PT", "remote coaching", "online macro coach", "form check coach"), wider catchment (no proximity requirement), different competitive set (international PTs, app-based platforms like MacroFactor, Hevy). Online PT pages need transformation content + delivery model content (app, Zoom, WhatsApp, weekly check-ins) + social proof depth (more important without local trust).

How much does PT SEO cost?

UK retainers: £650/mo single transformation niche single area, £1,200/mo multi-transformation studio or in-person + online combined, £2,500/mo PT brands building course or programme revenue layered onto 1:1 coaching. US: $850 / $1,500 / $3,200. Canada CAD $1,150 / $2,100 / $4,400.

How important are before/after photos and testimonials?

Critical. Transformation evidence is the highest E-E-A-T signal in PT SEO. Real before/afters (with consent), real testimonial videos, real measurable outcomes (weight loss kilograms, deadlift PR kilograms, race time improvements) outrank generic credential signals every time. We help structure transformation evidence for SEO discoverability with proper schema.

Do you handle pre and post natal PT, women's health coaching?

Yes. Pre and post natal is one of the highest-ROI PT sub-verticals because the demand is high, the competition is thin (most PTs are not qualified to work with this population), and the customer LTV is excellent. Pages need pre/post natal specific qualifications (CIMSPA Pre and Postnatal, PROnatal, Burrell Education), diastasis-recti awareness content, pelvic-floor-aware programming content, and HCPC physio referral relationships where applicable.

What about marathon, triathlon, and endurance coaching SEO?

Endurance coaching is a specialist sub-vertical with deeper buyer research patterns. Pages need race-specific content (London Marathon, Boston, Ironman), VO2max and power-based programming awareness, qualifications (UK Athletics, British Triathlon, Training Peaks Level 2), and case-study evidence with race-time improvements.

Do you do PT website builds?

Yes. Hand-coded Next.js sites with HealthClub + Person schema, transformation landing page architecture, gallery + video schema for before/afters, and integration with whichever booking system (Acuity, Squarespace Scheduling, GymCatch, Trainerize).

Will you guarantee rankings?

No. We commit to scoped work, transparent reporting, and honest assessment of realistic targets.

For UK personal trainers, SEO success depends on transformation-specific landing pages targeting the buyer’s goal, life-stage, and training style rather than generic “PT [city]” head terms which are aggregator-dominated. The highest-ROI niches are pre and post natal women’s fitness, beginner / couch-to-5K, women-over-40 strength, marathon and triathlon coaching, and strength specialism (powerlifting, CrossFit). Online PT is a separate SEO surface with wider catchment and different content needs. Real client transformation case studies with proper Person + ImageObject schema feed the strongest E-E-A-T signal in PT SEO. Retainers run £650–£2,500 per month UK with USD and CAD equivalents.
